Welcome To St. John Lutheran Church (ELCA) Saginaw, Michigan

St. John Lutheran Church: Music

When words can no longer express our innermost feelings and highest praise, music takes over. Whether in the joyful songs of children, the unique tones of handbells and tone chimes, or the excitement of musical instruments, St. John is blessed to have many talented musicians who volunteer their time and talents. We strive to provide a wide range of musical styles while still maintaining the Lutheran liturgical traditions. By using both traditional and contemporary music, we offer a blended worship opportunity.

On any given Sunday you may find traditional hymns played on our pipe organ, or praise choruses accompanied on the piano. We also have many different groups of musicians that provide special music, worship leadership, hymn accompaniment, and musical accompaniment. We hope that the music at St. John will leave you feeling uplifted and help to feed you spiritually.

St. John Lutheran Church: I Am Their Music

St. John Lutheran Church: Handbell Choir
St. John Lutheran Church: Handbell Choir The handbell choir is an essential part of our music program. Our members range in age from elementary school students to grandparents. This variety leads to an energetic and fun group of talented ringers.

We provide special music during worship services every other Sunday. We have recently offered an arrangement of a Bach flute cantata, and an arrangement of the popular worship song, "Shout To The Lord".

St. John Lutheran Church: The Adult Choir St. John Lutheran Church: Adult Choir
One growing group of musicians at St. John is our Adult Choir. The choir ranges from 10-20 members and they really enjoy singing together as a group. They provide special music every other Sunday and help to lead the congregation through the service. Recently the choir helped to lead a Tenebrae Service and provided all of the special music for this service.

St. John Lutheran Church: Praise Band
St. John Lutheran Church: Praise Band The St. John Praise Band plays the fourth Sunday of the month. They provide the music for the liturgical setting from the With One Voice hymnal.

When the band plays, the building is filled with upbeat and uplifting music. The drums, trumpets, flute, horn, piano, and other percussion instruments add a wonderful color to the service.

The Praise Band rehearses at 11:00 a.m. at church on the Saturdays prior to performances. They are always looking for new members.

St. John Lutheran Church: The St. John Singers
St. John Lutheran Church: The St. John Singers
The St. John Singers fill a need not only in our congregation, but in our community at large. Directed and accompanied by Bill Parth, a member of the congregation, the Singers travel to local nursing homes to provide entertainment.

The choir consists of retired members of the congregation who love to sing and volunteer their time to enrich the lives of others. They sing popular songs from the past like "Let Me Call You Sweetheart" and traditional worship songs like "Amazing Grace".

The St. John Singers also provide occasional special music during worship and currently meet at the church on Wednesday mornings at 10:00 a.m.
